Detail of found billboard vinyl

Looking At You Looking At Me, 2006
plywood, foil faced board, found billboard vinyl, dimensions variable

With my graduate thesis exhibition, I explore the relationship of billboard advertising, vision, and the city. The plywood sculpture acts as a pseudo viewing device through which the gallery visitor can look at the billboard from several points, then move around the sculpture and look back through a mirrored prism-like space of forced perspective. The crystalline sculpture form, rough and crate like on the exterior and smooth and finished on the interior, is derived from studies I made of perspectival cones of vision that occur between the person on the street viewing billboards and the billboard "face" looking back from its perch above the rooftops of the city.
